When you establish your will or living trust, we hope that you will consider a legacy gift to Syracuse Habitat for Humanity. Legacy giving can come from anyone, no matter the size of your estate, or whether you think of yourself as rich or poor. Even a small legacy gift can have a big impact on the lives of a deserving family.
Your legacy gift does not need to be cash. You can leave stocks, real estate, insurance policies or personal property, and can name Syracuse Habitat for Humanity as a beneficiary of your life insurance, pension plan, or 401K or IRA.
It’s easy to include a charitable donation to Syracuse Habitat in your will or living trust, but we suggest that you consult your estate lawyer or financial planner for guidance.
And when planning your legacy giving, you don’t have to choose between the non-for-profit and your family; you can give to both. In fact, in some cases, the charitable gift may reduce inheritance taxes for your family. Your financial planner or estate lawyer can explain this in more detail.
