Volunteer Opportunities
Here's a list of our current volunteer needs. If you see something that interests you, email our volunteer coordinator Carl Sharak at volunteercoordinator@syracusehabitat.org. If you haven't yet submitted a volunteer application, please do that first and note what position(s) interest you.
Current Volunteer Openings
HOWEVER, if you don't see anything that makes use of your unique talents and you still want to help, give us a call. We can figure out some way to put you to good use!
Volunteer Coordinator
- The Volunteer Coordinator provides for the recruiting, retention and recognition of volunteers for Syracuse Habitat Humanity. The position is part-time paid.
ReStore Volunteer Coordinator
- The ReStore Volunteer Coordinator provides for the recruiting, retention and recognition of volunteers for Syracuse Habitat Humanity's Restore.
Volunteer Build Hosts
- Volunteer Hosts welcome volunteers to the construction site, ensure liability waivers are completed and give guidance to volunteers. Volunteer Hosts serve as a liaison between the Construction Manager and the volunteers.
Grant Writer and Researcher
- The Grant Researcher and Writer investigates possible grant sources for foundations that are potential funding sources for Syracuse Habitat for Humanity and writes requests for funding.
Fundraising Strategist
- Develop, implement and maintain a variety of strategies to raise funds for Syracuse Habitat for Humanity through donations, grant writing, and special event fund raising.
Public Relations Specialist
- The Public Relations Specialist will coordinate Syracuse Habitat for Humanity's public relations activities so that media coverage and communication with volunteers, donors, and the general public is effective
Office Helper
- Answer incoming calls and route them to the appropriate personnel. Answer questions regarding Syracuse Habitat for Humanity and its mission. Data entry, filing and various office tasks.
Mailing Helpers
- Every other month we need help with our Harbinger Newsletter mailing. And we could use some help on other speciality mailing projects. Sometimes we can provide packages of materials for you to pick up, assemble and return to our office. By the way, if you're looking for an in-office volunteer activity for your department, or something to occupy your teenager, mailings might be the project for you! So, if you are interesting in helping out, let us send us an email at adminassist@syracusehabitat.org or give us a call and we'll add you to our list of mailing helpers.
Special Events Specialist
- The Special Events Specialist organizes and executes special events in order to raise funds for Habitat and increase public awareness of Habitat. Previous experience in special event planning. Skilled in coordinating events from inception to completion. Ability to recruit, manage and energize volunteers. Have good "people skills" and be a clear communicator. Comfortable speaking to large groups.
Writer/Journalist
- Looking for someone to write stories or articles about different aspects of what we do at Syracuse Habitat for Humanity. Your work will be published in our bi-monthly Harbinger Newsletter and on the Syracuse Habitat website. We might have some unsual writing projects as well through out the year.
Public Speakers
- Presentations from Speakers Bureau members offer an opportunity to educate listeners on the work of Habitat for Humanity around the world, to expose myths surrounding affordable housing, and to invite listeners to participate in this great work through volunteerism, advocacy, donations, and other forms of support. Habitat for Humanity is able to grow and continue to serve more families as others in our community are informed about and engaged in this important work. By handling public engagements and PR opportunities, Speakers Bureau members keep the organization running smoothly by helping our staff save time.
ReStore Driver
- ReStore Driver assists the Material Collections Driver in picking up donated materials. Inspect donated materials for suitability. Loading materials into truck Completing necessary field paperwork Assist preparation, stocking and displaying of donated building materials. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Familiarity with maps and streets of Syracuse area are helpful but not necessary.
ReStore Sales Associate
- ReStore Sales Associate is responsible for assisting customers, welcoming customers to the store, answering general questions about the store and merchandise, and the processing of donated materials for sale at the Restore.
ReStore Cashier
- ReStore Cashier responsible for the processing and accepting of payments for purchase of items, answering general questions about the store and merchandise, welcoming customers to the store and assisting customers. Work is performed in a retail/warehouse environment and requires the ability to operate a cash register , accurately make change and phone skills.
Builds
- We are currently building two homes one at 214 Merriman sponsored by Carrier, SSO, AHC, Texas Roadhouse, CNY Realtors and we still need more sponsors. The 621 Tully Street house is fully sponsored by Syracuse University Campus Chapter and a supplement from AHC.
